It Is Important To Know That Muscle Is A Hardy Tissue

Hello Cincinnati: I would like to address the issue of pulled muscles. Frequently, a patient will tell me that they have a pulled muscle or they have been told they have a pulled muscle. Usually, they have some neck, shoulder, or back pain to which they cannot relate an injury or activity. I often hear, "It just came on, I don't know what happened." However, except in cases of trauma, a muscle injury rarely happens by itself.

To understand, it is important to know that muscle is a hardy tissue. It is designed to move bones and joints and to lift loads against resistance (think of lifting groceries, or even weights at the gym). So now you know that muscles do not get injured without trauma. You may be asking, then what gives? Well, if a bone or joint is misaligned or out of its ideal position, the muscle will be forced to work harder and abnormally. Without correction of the misalignment, the muscle will become fatigued and filled with tension causing them to spasm and become painful. Additionally, the misaligned bones will cause increased pressure on the disc and joint cartilage, ultimately resulting in degenerative disc and joint disease. The final result can be the development of severe nerve pinching and major health problems.

Chiropractors call this kind of misalignment a subluxation. If caught early subluxations readily corrected by chiropractors. People who choose to take medication to cover the pain, instead of correcting the underlying problem, are at a much higher risk for developing degenerative joint disease.

These Disruptions Diminish An Individual's Ability To Function Optimally

Chiropractic adjustments correct subluxations, or misalignments in the spine that disrupt the proper performance of the nervous system. These disruptions diminish an individual’s ability to function optimally. This is key during pregnancy because a mother’s functioning becomes challenged, due to the rapid changes of her growing baby. Furthermore, her baby’s growth and development hinges on her functioning and the internal environment that she creates for her baby. The Webster Technique specifically addresses the subluxations in her sacrum and pelvis.

Pregnant moms are more susceptible to sacral and pelvic subluxations because of increased hormones (relaxin), weight gain, and the associated changes in her posture. The aim of the Webster Technique is to decrease the effects of subluxations in the sacrum and pelvis through a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment, in order to improve neuro-biomechanical functioning to the sacral/pelvic region. Restoring this neuro-biomechanical functioning may affect the baby’s spinal and nervous system development, improve the baby’s positioning and birth outcome, prevent dystocia (difficult labor), and relieve general aches and pains in the sacrum and pelvis.

Eat Your Broccoli!

(NaturalNews) In order to prevent arteries from clogging, researchers from Imperial College London suggest consuming at least one cup of broccoli daily. Their research findings concludes that there is a chemical in leafy green vegetables, as well as broccoli, that offers protective measures for the heart, including preventing artery blockages.

Broccoli contains a compound called sulforaphane, which is necessary to activate a protein that stops plague formation in the arteries. Glucosinolates, which produce anti-inflammatory isothiocyanates (ITCs), are also found in broccoli.

ITCs are important, because they stop chronic inflammation within blood vessels and cells. ITCs are also responsible for the reduction of heart disease and stroke.

Combating Cancer With Baking Soda

This treatment should not be used for more than three weeks at a time. During the first week no more than two TEAspoons a day of baking soda should be taken orally. During the second and third week no more than one TEAspoon a day of baking soda should be taken orally. Only under the care of a medical practitioner should these maximum internal doses be exceeded.

For skin cancers and other external cancers (inlcuding a rectal enema), where the baking soda solution comes into direct contact with the cancer, this restriction does not apply.

Complimentary Medicine & General Practice: An Urban Perspective

Medical physicians consider chiropractic tops in effectiveness among complementary approaches, according to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Liverpool in the Britain. As part of the analysis, investigators mailed surveys to all of the general practitioners in Liverpool. A total of 252 doctors responded. During the week prior to completing the survey, 13% had treated their patients directly with alternative therapies, 31% had referred patients to alternative practitioners and 38% had endorsed one or more complementary therapy. A total of 62% of doctors reported successful outcomes from alternative approaches. In contrast, 21% noted adverse reactions. Chiropractic and osteopathy were considered the most effective types of complementary therapy, while acupuncture was the most widely used.

Chiropractic Clears Ear Infections

My daughter was 4 years old and still had a sinus/ear infection shortly after finishing her medication prescribed by her pediatrician. Apparently the medication was unable to cure the infection. The infection became resistant to the medication, so he recommended us to see a chiropractor at All Children’s in St. Pete. The doctor told us she needed to have tubes put in her ears—again. She already had them put in at age 2. I scheduled her surgery to take place in two weeks.

After I saw that doctor I took my daughter to see my brother-in-law who is a chiropractor. I asked him to explain to me how chiropractic could help clear up ear infections. Then I told him, “Okay then, you have 2 weeks to get her ears cleared up before she has the surgery and goes in to have her well child check-up.”

So, we went in for an adjustment three times a week, for two weeks straight. On the day of her well-child check-up, the pediatrician told me her ears and sinuses were completely cleared, and she no longer needed to have the surgery to put tubes put in her ears. We never had to put tubes again and rarely needed to have a prescription. Now (at age 12) my daughter is never sick except for occasional slight colds. Anytime we have colds or if she complains of something aching in her back, we go see the chiropractor. We are lucky to see the pediatrician only once a year now.

Improvement In A 3 Yr Old Autistic Child Following Chiropractic-A Case Study

A documented case study published on March 24th 2008 in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research, showed the improvement of a 3 year old girl who was diagnosed with autism a year earlier. In this case the girl initially could not speak or communicate with anyone except through screaming and tantrum like outbursts. This young girl did not socialize at all with others her age and did not engage in physical activity. The child’s mother did note that after the first set of vaccinations her child did react differently and slept for 24 hours.

The young girl was brought in for a chiropractic evaluation where a series of tests and scans were performed. A finding of subluxation was made and care was initiated for correction of the subluxations. Over the next 10 week period, the child was checked and given specific chiropractic adjustments 28 times.

Upper Back Pain Relief

“My neck is hurting again!?” Do you ever find yourself thinking this? Did you know that neck pain often comes from tension in the upper shoulders? Unlike our cars, our bodies are an interconnected network of physiological processes. One area does effect another.

When you have tension in your upper back, it can sometimes cut off necessary blood and nerve supply to your head and neck. And, as we know, a steady, free-flowing supply of oxygen, carried by our blood supply is necessary for clear thinking. Our brains are the command and control center of our bodies, needed that immediate feedback loop to stay open.

What is Chiropractic?

"Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health."

- Association of Chiropractic Colleges

Chiropractic can help reduce the severity and the frequency of your allergies. Chiropractic does not work like an anti-histamine as a direct, short term relief from allergies. Chiropractic allows your body to be better equipped to fight against allergies.

When your spine is misaligned it can impinge on the nervous system in your body. Studies have shown that the nervous system has an effect on the functionality of your immune system. When your nervous system is under stress and not functioning properly, your immune system cannot work at an optimal level. Chiropractors work with the nervous system by aligning the spine to relieve any stress on nerves. This allows the immune system to work at a higher level, making it easier to fight off infections while recognizing allergens. When your immune system recognizes allergens, it will not overreact to them, or at least not react as severely to them.

If you suffer from allergies, chiropractic can help you find relief. Schedule an appointment today.

Whiplash is a common injury for people involved in car collisions. When a car is struck from behind or collides with another object, it causes the neck to snap back and forth violently. This causes the muscles and ligaments to overextend, leading to strains and/or tears. This is referred to as soft tissue damage, and can cause stiffness and soreness. Whiplash can also cause structural damage such as misaligned vertebrae, herniated, bulging or ruptured discs, or nerve damage due to the overextension from the violent movement.

Chiropractic can help with both types of injuries. Adjustments and alignments can be performed specifically for those who have been in car accidents and suffered from whiplash. The pressure on the discs and nerves is released when the spine is returned to its proper alignment. Chiropractic massage can be used to help relieve the pain and discomfort from soft tissue injuries. If you have been in a car accident, schedule an appointment with us before relying on pain medications and surgery.

Chronic stress and the chiropractic approach

It is true that chiropractic approach can help people cope with chronic stress. Chronic stress occurs when stress levels do not go down as they are meant to. Our bodies are hardwired to confront anxious or stressful situations by increasing our stress levels and hormones and then return to a normal state. This function happens in every person and is what has kept our species alive. Chiropractors have a very unique approach to helping the body relieve itself from chronic stress.

The vertebral subluxation complex is a very serious condition in which pressure is put on the nerves in the spinal column and causes irritation.  For people who suffer from chronic stress, they are never able to fully relax. This means they are much more susceptible to fatigue, lower immune system, and disease.  When a doctor of chiropractic locates and corrects the subluxations, not only is stress being removed from the nervous system, but also the entire functioning of the body is improved. These two factors relieve stress from the body directly, and indirectly.

Pinched Nerves Hurt- Relief at Last

Do you ever feel longer than normal periods of fatigue? Do you want more energy?

Let’s start with the basics. A nerve is like a wire. A wire is usually made of copper and wrapped in a thermoplastic coating for insulation.  A nerve is wrapped in a myelin sheath for insulation. A nerve sends signals (electrochemical) to and from the area sensed to the brain and spinal cord.

The Mayo Clinic defines a pinched nerve as:   A pinched nerve can occur at several sites in your body. A        herniated disk in your lower spine, for example, may put pressure on a nerve root, causing pain that radiates down the back of your leg (sciatica).

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A Cure?

Do you find it hard to concentrate? Do you have periods of prolonged restlessness? Do you know someone who might exhibit these symptoms? ADHD, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is one of the most common neurobehavioral disorders of childhood, according the Center for Disease Control, CDC.

ADHD can be common in childhood. According to the Mayo Clinic staff ADHD may not diagnosed until later in life. Some adult symptoms may include unstable relationships, poor work or school performance and low self-esteem.

Let’s take a closer look at how brain functioning may be impaired in a person with ADHD. Did you know your brain is an organ? Sending billions of signals all over your body, your brain uses a combination of electricity and neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters may help or hinder the connection of these signals. Neurotransmitters are brain chemicals that communicate messages throughout our brain and throughout our body.

What is sciatica? Why is it so painful?

The sciatic nerve comes from nerves called the sacral plexus. These nerves travel to the sacrum and lumbar regions of the body. The sciatic nerve is actually a bundle of two nerves, the tibial and common peroneal nerves. Since the sciatic nerve is the largest and thickest nerve of the human body, it’s no wonder that this structure could be easily impinged.

A bigger wire, so to speak, is easier to get stepped on, than a smaller one. But, in your body, your nerves don’t get stepped on, they get caught in between things. These things in your body, come in the form of muscle, adipose or fat tissue. Other structures may impede but muscle and adipose are the most common.
